Wisdom teeth are the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of the mouth on the top and bottom. They are also known as third molars. They usually appear between the ages of 17 and 25.
If a wisdom teeth does not have room to grow, they are known as impacted wisdom teeth. They may result in pain, food trapped, infection or gum disease, tooth decay, damage adjacent teeth, cysts around wisdom tooth, or complications with orthodontic treatment.
Asymptomatic wisdom teeth may be extracted for preventative reasons such as thee tooth may have decay, difficulty to clean tooth due to position, and serious complications with wisdom teeth extractions occur less in younger adults.
